Backups during recording
Every 200 milliseconds digital dictations are backed up in the local backup folder. If the Recorder is suddenly closed down without saving a dictation, the backup file will be automatically loaded into the Recorder when it is restarted.
During the Dragon speech recognition process the recognized text is automatically saved as a .rtf file and .dra whenever the microphone is switched off, e.g. via the "sleep" command, or after a "new line/paragraph" speech command. In addition, a backup is made regularly, depending on the length of the dictation. If the system had an error and Recorder is then restarted, the text and audio of the speech-recognized dictation will be loaded automatically into the Dictation Window ready for further dictation.
For Single-User Mode, the backup (Dragon text and sound) will be saved automatically in the network dictation directory when restarting the Recorder after a system crash but this dictation can't be continued with speech recognition.
Backups after Saving in the Dictation Window
Up to 99 digital dictations will be saved in the backup sub-folder of the program installation folder on the local machine. These backups are automatically numbered from 1 to 99 and have a *.wav suffix. The most recently saved backup can be identified by its date, the length is also shown. Backups can be loaded into the Dictation Window via the Import button. A list of recent backups of recordings is available on the Options / Recorder tab under the Backup settings button.
External dictations imported from voice recorders are always backed up before they are converted to wav format. They are listed as .dss .df .wav .amr or .vmo. You can also re-import them from the local backup folder.
Up to 99 Dragon speech-recognized Dictations will also be saved in the backup sub-folder of the program installation folder on the local machine. These backups are automatically numbered from 1 to 99 and have a *.wav (and *.dra) suffix for the audio files and a *.rtf suffix for the text files. The most recently saved backup can be identified by its date and timestamp. Backups, audio and text together, can be loaded into the Dictation Window via the Import button.
An additional option allows further backups of dictations already saved in the network and then reworked later. This can be set from the Backup settings button.
